Homosexuality

Gay men and lesbians often live openly in Germany. Two men or two women holding hands is a common sight in cities like Cologne or Berlin. The “Christopher Street Day” gay parades bring more people out on the streets than even the drunken revelry of the famous German “Karneval.” And it’s not only people in the entertainment world who have felt confident enough to “come out” to the public, some politicians have as well. But all the progress hasn’t been easy and it’s been a long, hard fight for equal rights for gays and lesbians. And as in the Netherlands, same-sex couples can now officially register their partnership in Germany.
