Registering your own Car

As everybody knows, time is money! And in Germany, it’s easier to buy a car than to register it. The process begins with the TÜV, a vehicle monitoring institution. The TÜV ensures that the car is safe for the road. Then it’s off to the vehicle registration office, where you’ll need the following documentation.

- License plate of the car and any vehicle documents.
- Passport or identification card
- Proof of residency registration
- Certification from the Federal Vehicle Office that there is not a German registration for the car
- German insurance card
- Depending on the home country, two customs clearance declarations
- Certificate from the TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein)
